A new you for the New Year
In a style rut? The New Year is the perfect time to reinvent your look, and experimenting with color is one of the easiest ways to change up your style.
In recent years neutrals like gray have reigned supreme, but now’s the time to get excited about saturated hues like those in the plaid sweatshirts above. Find colors that work well for you and go for it—stores will be selling more and more colorful clothes, so try things on and see what complements your coloring the most. P.S. Jewel tones like amethyst, sapphire, and emerald look good on everyone, so they’re a safe bet for sure.
Colored jeans, on the other hand, are on their way out. The “it” pants of the season are distressed jeans. And just because they’re distressed doesn’t mean you have to show a lot of skin; many manufacturers sell pairs with reinforcing sewn behind the frays and holes, keeping you warm and modest while looking on trend. This also makes them more appropriate for moms and more “mature” women.
Jewelry is another easy place to change things up. We’re noticing an emphasis on dainty necklaces as a reaction to the statement necklaces so popular in years past. Thin chains with sentimental pendants are gaining a following and look great layered with other delicate necklaces. The same goes for stacking bracelets and rings—the more, the merrier. For earrings, up the edginess with jacket earrings (you know, the ones where the back is decorative and shows beneath the ear lobe).
